SOCAR to drill new wells at Azerbaijan’s West Absheron

SOCAR is going to drill 10 new wells at the offshore West Absheron field, the company said on April 9. 

The company plans to drill new wells with a depth of approximately 1,000 meters from the platform No 20 located at the West Absheron field. The wells will be drilled horizontally, SOCAR said. 

"Currently, preparations for the drilling work are underway. However, all efforts are focused on preparations for beginning of drilling at Umid gas condensate field, where we will also begin to work," the company said. The reserves of the Umid field are estimated at 200 billion cubic meters of gas. 

The West Absheron field is owned by Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR's Absheronneft Oil and Gas Production Department.
