Yet Again, Paris is Top Tourist Destination in the World

Yet Again, Paris is Top Tourist Destination in the World

In the beginning of 2014, London made claims that it was 2013′s most popular tourist destination in the world. French authorities, however, weren’t about to give up their reign. In spite of the economic issues that affected countries all around the globe last year, Paris, France, had its biggest influx of tourists in 10 years. 32.3 million people made their way to the City of Light last year, making it the world’s most visited city of the year.

While it used to be popular for the French to travel within their country to visit the capital city, it seems that international tourism is beginning to take over. 15.5 million international travelers crossed French borders this year, which is 8.2% more than were recorded in 2012. Paris was most popular amongst the British – 2.1 million of whom made the trek – followed by tourists from America, Germany, Italy, and China. The number of French tourists, however, dropped by 7.5% from last year. These statistics were gathered from reports on Parisian vacation rentals within the city.Needless to say, the city’s most visited attraction was the iconic Eiffel Tower – business as usual. Standing tall at over 1,000 feet and the centerpiece of the Champ de Mars Park, it’s one of the most photographed structures in the world. Due to its clear-sky backdrop and glistening lights at night, it makes for a great vacation memory photo whether you visit day or night.A runner-up to the Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most visited museums: The Louvre. Nestled in Louvre Palace and easily identified by the glass pyramid structure out front, the Louvre is home to the “Mona Lisa” by da Vinci, “Dying Slave” by Michelangelo, and the Greek statue “Venus of Milo.” Those who visit Paris are unable to resist the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of seeing these monumental pieces in person. Finally, the third-most popular attraction in the French capital is the Arc de Triomphe. Constructed in 1806 to memorialize the bravery of Napoleon Bonaparte, the arch is decorated with intricate images of Bonaparte’s battles and engraved with the names of those who died in them. Just beneath is the famous Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.Unfortunately for London, tourists from near and far simply can’t resist what the City of Love and Lights has to offer, from historical structures to world-famous art and fine dining to boot. In fact, the city expects that 2014 will be another tourist-rich year.(vacationinparis.com)ANN.Az
