UK company denies producing phones with Aliyev signature

Amjad Ali, CEO and owner of Gold & Co. in London, has dismissed media reports that his company produced golden plated iPhones with a signature of former Azerbaijani President Heydar.

“It’s the first time I hear about Heydar Aliyev,” Ali said in an interview with the Russian service of BBC World. “I assure you that we have never produced telephones bearing his name. No one has asked us to do so either.”

Ali said golden plated iPhones bearing Aliyev’s signature were probably counterfeit products.

Aliyev ruled Soviet Azerbaijan between 1969 and 1982 and returned to power two years after the country regained independence from the former Soviet Union. He passed away in 2003.
