Azerbaijan plans second telecom satellite for 2017
Azerbaijan's second telecommunications satellite, Azerspace-2, is scheduled to be launched in 2017, Azerkosmos Open Joint-Stock Company said.
Several orbital positions are being considered to accommodate the second satellite, the company said, according to Trend news service.
The second telecommunications satellite will be designed to provide digital broadcasting, internet access, data transmission, among other services. It will be a commercial project.
A tender is expected to be announced soon for construction of the satellite.
The first satellite, Azerspace/Africasat-1a, was manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation. It was launched on February 8, 2013 from the Guiana Space Centre's ELA-3 launch complex.
