iPhone explodes in 8th grader’s back pocket after she sits on it - PHOTO

A class at the Middle School in Kennebunk, Me., had to be cleared out Friday morning when a female eighth grade student said her pants were burning her after she sat down and heard a pop, principal Jeffrey Rodman told the Daily News Saturday.Though the student was understandably panicked the rest of the class came quickly to her aid. A female teacher came into the room, as the boys in the class waited outside, Rodman said. The student quickly raced to the corner and took off her pants, he said. The phone fell out of the pocket and she rolled on the ground thinking she may be on fire, he said.The student was treated for minor burns and is expected to return to school Monday.The pants had multiple burn holes and there was so much smoke in the room that a window had to be opened, he said."We definitely avoided something that could have been a lot worse," he said. "We're very grateful the girl is OK and the quick response from the students and the staff minimized what potentially could have caused a lot more damage."The cause of the iPhone explosion is under investigation by the state Fire Marshall, Rodman said, adding that the school and the local fire chief had never seen something like this happen before.(nydailynews.com)ANN.Az
