Ukrainian energy minister: gas reverse from Europe not to be stopped
13.01.2014 09:59

Ukraine is not going to stop gas reverse from Europe, said Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Edward Stavizki before the session of the Cabinet of Ministers, reported RBC-Ukraine.

“We are not going to stop anything. Our position is – the purchase is where the price is better,” Stavizki said when asked if the gas reverse will be stopped.

Earlier Ukraine started gas reverse from Western Europe, because of a high price for Russian gas. But on December 17, 2013 Russia and Ukraine signed the addendum to the gas contract, which envisages gas price for Ukraine at $268.5 per 1000 cub.m. (earlier price was about $400 per 1000 cub.m.).

It has been earlier reported that according to the conditions of the document, Russia and Ukraine must conclude additional agreements to the gas contract till the tenth of the month every quarter and prolong the effect of the discount every quarter.

Later media wrote that from January 1, 2014 Ukraine stopped gas purchase at the European markets.

According to the operators of the Hungarian and Polish gas transportation networks – FGSZ Ltd and PGNiG, during 2013 Ukraine imported 1,127 billion cub.m. of natural gas from Hungary.
