Azerbaijani ambassador in Athens on TAP project
The likely scrapping of the South Stream natural gas pipeline project will not have an impact on the Southern Gas Corridor and the importance of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) because it (TAP) is not based on political criteria, Azerbaijani ambassador in Athens Rahman Mustafayev said in an interview with ANA-MPA.
Recently he completed a tour of the roughly 600-kilometers-long TAP route from the Greek-Albanian to the Greek-Turkish borders, during which he had more than
50 meetings with local authorities in northern Greece. He noted that any localized problems related with the project can be solved through dialogue and underlined that in general the project is seen in a positive way by local communities.
The Azerbaijani ambassador added that TAP now covers only Turkey, Greece, Albania and Italy but its future plans include the Western Balkans through Albania and the Ionic-Adriatic Pipeline, as well as Eastern and Central Europe under certain conditions, including the availability of natural gas volumes.
