Zinedine Zidane and son Enzo return to Real Madrid Castilla training

Zinedine Zidane will take charge of Real Madrid Castilla's first full training session on Monday and so begin a father and son campaign to get the club's B-team back into the second division.

The Real Madrid and France legend has remained coach with the club’s ‘Castilla’ B-team despite failing to secure promotion last season and this year he will have son Enzo in his squad as the 20-year-old Bordeaux-born attacking midfielder steps up from the Madrid C-team.

And with Zinedine and Enzo ready for their father and son act in Spain’s third tier, Zidane senior’s other three sons are also preparing for the new season at Real Madrid.

Seventeen year-old Goalkeeper Luca will play for the Under 18s this year; 13-year-old attacking midfielder Theo will play for the Under 14s and 10-year-old Elyaz will also continue his development in the club’s Under 11s team.

Big things are expected from the Zizou dynasty. Despite the disappointments of last season Zinedine is still the man president Florentino Perez hopes will manage the team one day.

The World Cup winner admitted earlier this summer that he would have accepted the job had it been offered him when Carlo Ancelotti left and that places him firmly in contention should things not work out for Rafa Benitez.

Enzo, named after Uruguayan great Enzo Francescoli who was one of his father’s heroes, has already been given the chance to train with the first team by previous Real coaches Jose Mourinho and Ancelotti.

He joined the club from Juventus’ youth system in 2004 and there are high hopes he will reach the first team.

The same great expectations surround keeper Luca who was born just after his dad won the World Cup on home soil in 1998.

He is not the biggest of keepers but many believe he will go the furthest of the four and this year he could even play some matches alongside brother Enzo for the Castilla side.

Theo and Elyaz are still some way from full development but both have their father’s touch on the ball and the same preference for where they play on the pitch.

So far the pressures of being the sons of one of the greatest players to wear the all-white of Real Madrid has not stunted development.

And just in case the shirt begins to weigh heavy on their young shoulders they have chosen to play either with their first names on their backs or with ‘Fernandez’ the surname of their mother Veronica.
