Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is still keen to make a breakthrough in talks for Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos but is unlikely to pursue Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia despite being offered the Argentine.

Valencia need money to help fund the rebuilding of their stadium and see £36m-rated Otamendi as their best chance of raising it. Manchester City have also been approached about buying the 27-year-old, who partnered Eliaquim Mangala at Porto.

United want Ramos and another goalkeeper while Barcelona expect a United bid for Pedro over the coming days.

Much will depend on how Angel di Maria responds to talks with Louis van Gaal about his future when he joins up with United's tour group this week.

Should the Argentina international express a desire to go then United may signal his sale. PSG remain the frontrunners but know United will demand around £52million.

Pedro is an option for United as Van Gaal hinted at a possible 'surprise' but Javier Hernandez will get a chance which has put his proposed move away on hold.

Free agent Sergio Romero remains the most likely goalkeeper to arrive although no bids have been received yet for wantaway stopper Victor Valdes. 

Ajax's Jasper Cillessen, as reported by Sportsmail in May, remains a prominent candidate to replace David de Gea should he go.

Northern Ireland international Evans, meanwhile, is attracting interest although no bids have yet been placed. 

As Sportsmail reported, there have been enquiries from West Brom and Everton, although West Brom were surprised by United's initial valuation of £10million.

Manchester United defender Reece James is wanted by Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

The 21-year-old signed a contract extension earlier this year but the left back is keen to gain more competitive experience.

He had spells with Rotherham and Huddersfield last season and Forest manager Dougie Freedman is keen to take him on loan. 

Fulham, however, are willing to offer a permanent deal for James who impressed while on tour with United last summer in the USA.

The Championship duo face competition for James though from ambitious Wigan. They are eager to get out of League One at the first attempt and are assembling a strong squad for Gary Caldwell.

West Ham are taking a close look at Croatian striker Marko Livaja.

The 21-year-old is with Russian side Rubin Kazan but has been given permission to train with West Ham ahead of a proposed move.

Livaja is a fiery character who was highly-rated as a teenager which earned him a move to Inter Milan but he has failed to fulfil that promise and has endured further problems at Rubin Kazan with inconsistent form. He hopes teaming up with Slaven Bilic can revive his career and put him back on track.

Meanwhile, West Ham have revived their interest in midfielder Lassana Diarra. The former Real Madrid and Portsmouth midfielder has been in dispute with Lokomotiv Moscow. 

Diarra, 30, left Lokomotiv last August but administrative issues have prevented Diarra from playing for a new club. FIFA have now given him clearance and he wants to join West Ham who tried to sign him in January.
