'The threat is real' Obama confirms ISIS nuke plot 'to kill as many as possible'

The US president said Islamic State "madmen" were trying to get atom bombs and urged world leaders to up security at nuclear power plants.

And despite all efforts to reduce the risk, he said, humanity faced a persistent and evolving threat of nuclear terror and we "cannot be complacent".

"There is no doubt that if these madmen ever got their hands on a nuclear bomb or nuclear material, they would use it to kill as many innocent people as possible," he said.

It comes as David Cameron warned that British cities could be targeted by ISIS radioactive dirty bombs deployed with drones cheaply available on websites like Amazon.

While North Korea has vowed a terror attack on the West worse than 9/11 just hours before tubby tyrant Kim Jong-un conducted another high-tech rocket test.

Now with tensions at boiling point, world leaders have gathered in Washington DC for a nuclear security summit in a last-ditch attempt to stop WW3.

More than 50 nations have come together in the American capital, rallying against a threat which Obama said would "change our world".

Yet the summit has been boycotted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who Obama accused of building up his military, and nuclear-armed Pakistan.

And though the required 102 countries had signed up to a crackdown on nuclear theft and smuggling, Obama said there was still 2,000 tons of nuclear material in the world unaccounted for.

Closing the summit, he warned that nuclear facilities needed better protection against cyber attacks and that the evil ISIS terrorists behind the Brussels attacks had spied on atomic power officials.

The Prime Minister says hundreds more armed police will be stationed across the country in case of a Paris-style terror attack.

He said: "After the terrorist attacks in France last year, we decided to look at whether there was more we could do to protect people from the type of terrorist threat we now face.

"That's why we are increasing the number of specially trained armed officers up and down the country to make sure the police have greater capability to respond swiftlyand effectively should they need to do so."
