Trump Conditions Putin Summit on Ukraine Peace Deal Readiness
US President Donald Trump stated he is prepared to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, but underscored that any summit will only occur once both sides are positioned to seal an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. Trump delivered the remarks during an exchange with reporters at the White House.
The US leader noted that while he could convene talks with Putin immediately, discussions should only take place when tangible groundwork for a peace settlement is established, reaffirming Washington’s desire to maintain stable relations with both Moscow and Kyiv.
Directly calling on the warring leaderships, Trump urged Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt hostilities, describing the ongoing conflict as senseless. He identified intense personal animosity between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents as a primary roadblock to diplomatic resolution, asserting that while he had previously helped resolve eight conflicts, the deep-seated rivalry between both leaders complicates current mediation.
