BP, operator of the offshore Karabakh oil project in Azerbaijan, plans to begin construction in 2026 of a pipeline bundle manufacturing plant in Byandovan, about 20 km south of Alat, according to the company’s environmental and social impact assessment report.

Construction of the plant is due to begin in the third quarter of this year, with commissioning scheduled for spring 2028.

The project предусматривает a production workshop, railway infrastructure for transporting pipe assemblies, a pipe storage yard and related utility infrastructure.

According to the report, Byandovan was selected because of its suitable terrain, proximity to existing infrastructure and direct access to the sea.

The plant’s output, pipeline bundles, will consist of assemblies of pipeline components housed inside an outer carrier pipe and used for various offshore production purposes.

BP and SOCAR signed the agreement on the Karabakh project in the Caspian Sea on June 3, 2025. BP holds a 35% stake and SOCAR 65%.

Recoverable oil reserves at the field are estimated at 20 million to 30 million tonnes. The field may also contain up to 13 billion cubic metres of gas. It is located near the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field.
