Miesha Tate CHOKES Holly Holm unconscious for UFC crown

Miesha Tate CHOKES Holly Holm unconscious for UFC crown

Hard-as-nails Tate, 29, took Holm down in the fifth round and though the reigning champion battled to get up the contender refused to let go her ‘rear naked choke hold’. Seconds later Holm passed out.

Tate’s new status as UFC World Champion was a major upset as 34-year-old Holm only recently stripped the title from women’s Ultimate Fighting legend Ronda Rousey.

Holm was in tears as Tate, nicknamed Cupcake, was pronounced the champion.

UFC commentators agreed it was a sensational submission which called on the muscular new champion’s immense strength.

Holm, no slouch on the strength stakes herself, battled to get back on her feet – at one stage even using the cage to somersault forward, flipping Tate over.

But Tate refused to release the hold and when they hit the ground she kept the choke hold.

She looked like she was crushing Holm’s windpipe and 3 minutes 30 seconds into the fifth Holm blacked out.

After the fight Tate said: "I thought I had to be like a pit bull on a bone. I couldn’t let go of it.”

She paid tribute to the outgoing champion who had refused to ‘tap out’ hanging on until she physically passed out, and added: "I had to be patient.

"Holly’s dangerous and is capable of catching anyone at any moment.

"I have so much respect for her because she gave me everything she had.”

Tate’s win will likely result in a third meeting with her bitter rival Rousey.
