Saudi ambassador hails inter-faith relations in Azerbaijan

Saudi Arabian ambassador in Baku Musaid Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Salim has hailed inter-faith relations in Azerbaijan, Trend news agency reported.

He stressed the need to combine efforts to fight against extremist groups amid growing radical religious trends. 

The chairman of Azerbaijani's State Committee for Work with Religious Organisations, Mubariz Gurbanli, said compared to other Islamic countries, very few Azerbaijanis have joined radical and extremist groups.

"Strengthening religious enlightenment, preventing funding for radical groups and taking strict legal and administrative actions against them are very critical elements of the fight against radicalism," he said.

At the same time, Gurbanli expressed appreciation to the Saudi Arabian government's support of Azerbaijan's position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Both officials also discussed cooperation prospects and joint projects.
