Azerbaijan breaks up gang smuggling drugs from Iran

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of National Security (MTN) said it arrested 14 members of a gang smuggling in drugs from Iran. 

MTN operatives seized 3.6 kg of heroin, 21.8 kg of opium, 1.4 kg of hashish and 6.3 kg of marihuana from members of the gang, the ministry said in a statement.

All 14 suspects are Azerbaijani nationals.

Azerbaijan lies on a major drug trafficking route connecting Afghanistan with Europe.
