UN experts to arrive in Baku

According to the official website of the UN, a group of independent UN experts will arrive in the country on the invitation of the Government of Azerbaijan to observe the way economic activity influence on the human rights situation."Oil-rich Azerbaijan is experiencing rapid economic growth and the number of private companies in the economy is also growing. The country faces specific challenges  and opportunities in the area of ​​prevention of human rights violations related to business, and their protection", said Puvan Selvanatan, a member of the UN Working Group on the issue of business and human rights.Experts will view the current initiatives, opportunities and challenges in the implementation of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. These principles, which were unanimously approved by the UN Human Rights in 2011, are a clear guide for governments and companies to prevent and eliminate the negative consequences of economic activity in the field of human rights.During the ten-day visit, the experts will meet with representatives of the government and a number of companies, civil society organizations, trade unions and other interested parties.The results of the visit and expert advice will be included in a formal report to be submitted to the Human Rights Council in June 2015.Bakudaily.Az
