Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday appealed to Azerbaijan and Armenia to de-escalate the tension now building in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

"We are watching closely the developments in our neighboring, friendly states," said the prime minister " I hope and I am confident that they will come to an agreement soon and peace will be restored in this region."

He described Azerbaijan and Armenia both as equally important strategic states for the South Caucasus country.

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili on Monday also called upon Azerbaijan and Armenia to de-escalate the tension in Nagorno- Karabakh.

"Regional stability and potential of this region should be directed solely toward progress and better life of our peoples and not in any way toward conflicts," said the Georgian president.

The presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia are reportedly scheduled to meet in Sochi, a city Krasnodar Krai, Russia, later this week for talks about Nagorno-Karabakh.
