Telman Cafarov, a leader of the ethnic Azerbaijani community in the Ukrainian region of Luhansk, has been killed by pro-Russian separatists.
Cafarov, 53, was killed near the village of Kamenka on July 30, said Rasim Ugurluyev, deputy head of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Luhansk.
His body could not been retrieved as separatists are still in control of the area, Ugurluyev told APA news agency.
Three other ethnic Azerbaijanis were also injured in the attack. Their whereabouts are not known, Ugurluyev said.
Asim Osmanov, first secretary of the Azerbaijani embassy in Kiev, said an investigation had been started into the incident.
