More than 1,000 parents of children that studied at private Turkish schools in Azerbaijan have appealed to President Ilham Aliyev to reopen the schools, which were closed down last month.

The message, e-mailed to media by the parents, says that they were pleased with the level of education provided at the schools.

The schools were the best in the country not only for the quality of education but also for the training of ethics, they said.

“Former President Heydar Aliyev and you personally stressed the importance of these lyceums for the country’s education system,” the letter reads.

The parents expressed the hope that the president would interfere and help keep the schools.

“We believe that you will help resolve this issue and the lyceums will continue serving our people as they have done in the past 20 years,” the parents said.

The letter was submitted to the presidential office.
