Aliyev says no political prisoners in Azerbaijan

There are no political prisoners in Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said, speaking at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on June 24.

Azerbaijan is not a "perfect democracy" but the country provides all political freedoms, including the freedom of assembly and association, Aliyev said.

On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia, Aliyev said his government would never agree to the establishment of a "second Armenian state on Azerbaijani territory".

President Aliyev's remarks were broadcast live on the Council of Europe's website.
