EU launches new Entry/Exit System at Schengen borders

EU launches new Entry/Exit System at Schengen borders
13.10.2025 09:30

The European Union has introduced a new border control mechanism, the Entry/Exit System (EES), requiring electronic registration of travelers from non-EU countries, Reuters reported.

The automated system records passport scans, fingerprints (exempt for children under 12), and photographs upon entry into Schengen states.

The EU plans to phase out passport stamps by April 10, 2026, replacing them with electronic records in a central database.

Officials say the system will help identify overstayers, combat identity fraud and curb illegal migration.
