The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent an official notice to Azerbaijan and summoned the country’s ambassador in Tbilisi to the ministry after two Georgian MPs were detained at the Baku airport.

The Georgian foreign minister, Maia Panjikidze, said that "some incident” happened at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport involving opposition MPs Irma Nadirashvili and Zurab Japaridze.

“But as far as we heard incompatible statements from various persons, we need official confirmation of what happened there. We sent two representatives of our embassy to the Baku airport only after your interest was so huge in order to check if the reports were true. The Georgian ambassador was not at the airport yesterday, he was only verbally reported about the occurrence and his statement was based on these reports,” Panjikidze said, according to Rustavi 2.
