Russia would be happy to see any of its partners, including Azerbaijan, in the Customs Union or the Eurasian Economic Union of former Soviet republics, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in Baku today.

"There has been no formal invitation to Azerbaijan to join," Lavrov told a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Elmar Mammadyarov. "But we would be happy to see our partners showing interest".

Azerbaijani officials had earlier said the country had no intention of joining the blocs.

Lavrov also said Armenia will join the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union without Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azerbaijani region Armenians captured during a war in early 1990s.

"Armenia will join within borders recognized by the UN," he said.
