Azerbaijan–Israel ties developed outside Abraham Accords – Bayramov

Relations between Azerbaijan and Israel were not formed within the framework of the Abraham Accords and are based on a long-standing, multi-dimensional partnership, Azerbaijan’s foreign minister said.

Speaking at a press conference, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said the Abraham Accords primarily refer to agreements under which several Arab states that previously had no relations with Israel established diplomatic ties.

“Azerbaijan does not fall into that category,” he said.

“Azerbaijan–Israel relations have a long history. Israel has been represented in Azerbaijan with an embassy for many years, while Azerbaijan opened its embassy in Israel in 2023. There is an intergovernmental commission, direct flights, and an ongoing political dialogue. In other words, all key elements of bilateral relations are already in place,” Bayramov said.

He added that in this context, attempts to associate Azerbaijan–Israel relations with the Abraham Accords in 2025–2026 appear surprising.

“Our relations are not on the same level as Israel’s relations with some other countries that joined these accords,” the minister said.
