Azerbaijani journalist meets Dutch MP
21.05.2014 13:00

Vuqar Abbasov, a member of the Council of Journalists of the Netherlands, has met Michiel Servaes, a member of the Dutch parliament.

“I was going to interview him. But in the course of the conversation, we also touched on the occupation of Azerbaijani territory by Armenians, the Xocali events, among others. I told Mr. Servaes that Russia is behind of a these problems. I said that Servaes and other European politicians should pay more attention to historical realities. I said that the developments in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are viewed as the results of Russia’s occupation policy. The capture of Azerbaijani territory should also be viewed in the same way.”

Abbasov said he told the Dutch MP that Armenia has always been under strong Russian influence and it still is.

“To support my arguments, I said: Armenia voted against a resolution of the UN General Assembly on March 27 criticizing the referendum held in Crimea and expressing support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Azerbaijan voted for. During the meeting, we also discussed about the possibility of raising the issue of the Xocali genocide in the Dutch parliament.”

Abbasov said he will soon publish the interview with Servaes in Azerbaijani and Dutch media.
