U.S. State Department has issued a statement on the detained NIDA activists in Azerbaijan:

"The United States calls for a just and fair outcome in regards to the plight of the detained NIDA activists in Azerbaijan. The U.S. Embassy in Baku and other Western embassies have been closely following the case. The United States supports freedom of expression and assembly, including the right to peaceful protest as well – as is fundamental to any democracy.

"We have raised our concerns with senior Azerbaijani officials on several occasions, and obviously, the health and welfare of any activists as well as their families is of utmost concern to us."
