Azeri president congratulates Erdogan on election win

President Ilham Aliyev yesterday phoned Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to congratulate him on the ruling AK Party’s win in the March 30 local elections, Azartac reported.

Both Aliyev and Erdogan expressed satisfaction with the “successful expansion” of ties between Azerbaijan and Turkey in all areas, the Azeri state news agency said.

The AK Party won 46 percent of the vote in the election. The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) trailed with 27 percent.
