Armenian Armed Forces continue to violate ceasefire
15.02.2014 15:45

The ceasefire was violated on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops in different positions 15 times yesterday, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Feb. 15.

Armenian Armed Forces fired on the positions of Azerbaijani Armed Forces from the positions located near the villages of Garakhanbeyli, Horadiz of Fizuli region, Yusifjanli of Agdam region, Gizil Oba of Terter, Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy and at the nameless heights in Jabrayil, Khojavend and Gadabay regions last night.

The shooting was countered by return fire.

Earlier, the U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick said on his account in a social network that the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents re-committed to respecting the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire during the Olympic Games in Sochi.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the

liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
