Russia may impose visa regime with neighbors
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitriy Kozak has said his country needs to impose the visa regime with its former Soviet neighbors to stem the influx of illegal immigrants.
“The visa regime with some of the neighboring countries is necessary for the protection of national interests,” Kozak said in an interview with Rossiya 24 television channel.
Tightening the immigration policy is also required by the European Union, with which Russia is seeking to lift the visa regime, he said.
Azerbaijanis make up Russia's third largest immigrant community.
