Aliyev to join EU Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius

President Ilham Aliyev will visit the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, this week to attend a summit of the European Union's Eastern Partnership program, the EU office in the Azeri capital said.Aliyev is expected to sign an agreement on the simplification of the visa regime with EU countries. He will not initial an association agreement with the EU.
A group of journalists and public figures had earlier urged Aliyev to refrain from joining the Vilnius summit in protest against the criticism of Azerbaijan’s Oct. 9 presidential election by the EU.
Aliyev wona third term in office in the election, which the OSCE Office for DemocraticInstitutions and Human Rights said fell short of international standards.
