Czech president to visit Azerbaijan
04.12.2014 17:01
Hynek Kmoníček, head of the Presidential Office foreign department, told the Czech News Agency today that Czech President Miloš Zeman will visit Azerbaijan, Jordan, Italy and other countries in 2015 and will welcome the presidents of Vietnam and South Korea and the sultan of Malaysia (officially, the sultan of Kedah). Kmoníček said the precise schedule of foreign trips next year has not yet been worked out.

"We are now fine-tuning the program," Kmoníček said.

He said Zeman will make one foreign trip a month, and once in two or three months he will take part in an important event with international parameters, such as a multilateral summit.

In February, Zeman is to go to Jordan and at the same time visit another Arab destination, while there are three options. The Presidential Office is now choosing one of them according to time and technical possibilities and also according to businesspeople's interest in the given country.

"We also look forward to a visit to Azerbaijan, which is the second-biggest oil exporter to the Czech Republic," Kmoníček said, adding that no date has been set as yet.

The Azerbaijani news server Trend wrote recently, referring to Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Czech Republic Farid Shafiyev, that the visit could take place in February or March.

Zeman also plans a visit to Italy next year and wants to take part in the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, Latvia, in May.

Kmoníček said Zeman may also go to a conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in March and attend the September session of the UN General Assembly in connection with the 60th anniversary of the UN.

Zeman will meet Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj in Prague in January. Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, Malaysia’s Sultan Abdul Halim and South Korean President Park Geun-hye are also to visit the Czech Republic next year.
