Abortion rate in Azerbaijan surges 3.6-fold over 15 years

The abortion rate among women aged 15–49 in Azerbaijan rose to 35.6 per 1,000 women in 2025, up 21.1% from 29.4 recorded in 2024, the State Statistical Committee reported.

Official data shows a consistent upward trend in recent years: the rate stood at 17.9 per 1,000 women in 2021, climbing to 22.1 in 2022 and 27.9 in 2023.

Over a broader 15-year horizon, terminations of pregnancy have surged significantly, rising 3.6-fold from 9.9 per 1,000 women recorded in 2010.
