Plans revealed for £13million underwater hotel

Holidaymakers may soon be able to experience life under the sea by booking a stay at a futuristic hotel on the ocean floor.

The Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel has received USA Patent and Trademark approval as the world's first underwater hotel - with Egypt, Malaysia, Hawaii and the Bahamas revealed as some of the designers' preferred locations.

Guests would be treated to a one-of-a-kind panoramic view of sea life at a staggering 28ft (8.5 metres) below the surface.
The ambitious project aims to create a luxury boutique deep beneath the crystal-clear waters of the sea.

With the project receiving patent protection, designers are hoping to build self-contained underwater hotels, which come with a sealed lift, around the world to lure adventurous tourists.

Tony Webb, the man behind the hotel design, said: 'I refer to it as inner space tourism, and the new industry is now ready to launch into the ocean frontier.

'Meanwhile, the philanthropic goal is to give back to the planetary community through Biorock coral reef restoration of the world's endangered coral reefs.'

'We have selected a superior international location for our test site for the single unit hotel, and once the permit is issued then the count-down clock begins,' he added.

'We will offer an opportunity to be part of the inner space tourism industry to every Caribbean island nation, too.

'All they have to do is approve a mooring location for the Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel single unit with elevator.

'We will provide the protection, management and expansion of the most fascinating hotels on the planet.'

The hotel is technically classed as a vessel, because it can navigate ocean waters using electromechanical propulsion technology - and that means it can seek shelter under its own power in the event of a hurricane.

Buyers can purchase the single unit Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel and place it in an approved Caribbean location for $3million (£1.98million).

The 12-room design is priced at a whopping $20million (or over £13million).
