Conference on Caspian Sea's marine environment protection to be held in Baku

The Caspian Sea region countries intend to hold a conference on the protection of the marine environment of the Caspian Sea.


"The sixth conference as part of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea is planned to be held in Baku. We are interested in broadening the cooperation of the Caspian Sea region states to resolve environmental issues of the Caspian Sea," Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said at a meeting of the working group on the Caspian Sea's status in Baku on Wednesday.


At the same time, the deputy minister did not specify the dates of the conference.


The Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea is an international regional convention signed in Tehran, Iran, on November 4, 2003. The convention entered into force on August 12, 2006.


The objective of the convention is "the protection of the Caspian Sea's environment from pollution including the protection, preservation, restoration and sustainable and rational use of its biological resources."
