"Pelosi's crocodile tears are game and provocation designed for simple audience" - OPINION

19.09.2022 14:30
The crocodile tears shed by US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Armenia are another game and provocation designed for a simple audience, an Azerbaijani MP Jeyhun Mammadov said.

The MP said that Pelosi's visit to Armenia in such a sensitive period and her statements are an example of support for separatism:

"Some time ago, Pelosi openly demonstrated her support for separatism by visiting Taiwan. By making the next such visit to Armenia, she once again showed that she supports separatism, not peace and coexistence of peoples."

In Mammadov's opinion, there is no doubt that Pelosi's primary goal in this trip is to win the support of the Armenian lobby during the pre-election period.

"Pelosi, 85, is not thinking about retirement, but keeping her seat in Congress. In fact, this is the reality, the essence of the matter. Her statements in Armenia once again confirm this opinion. Pelosi has always been known for her traditional pro-Armenian position, and her statements and claims that transcend all diplomatic frameworks during her visit to Armenia show this once again. If Pelosi, who shows such prejudice and support for the territorial integrity of Armenia, is so fair and on the side of the right, why did she not raise her voice during the 30-year occupation by Armenia, visit Azerbaijan, show support for our country, and condemn Armenian brutality against Azerbaijanis?! If Pelosi is a supporter of rights and justice, why didn't she make statements condemning this brutality when Armenians destroyed all settlements, infrastructure, graves, and religious-historical monuments in the territories they occupied?!

The MP said Azerbaijan tried to solve the former Karabakh conflict through peaceful and fair means for nearly 30 years:

"However, Armenia has continually thwarted these attempts. Finally, Azerbaijan itself fulfilled the four resolutions of the UN Security Council and liberated its lands. During that period, we did not witness any accusations against Armenia. What is the reason for showing such unfair treatment against Azerbaijan after liberating its lands?"

Mammadov also noted that Pelosi's visit to Armenia is a bright example of crusader-like thinking:

"And her crocodile tears are another game and provocation aimed at a simple audience. It is known to everyone that it was Armenians who committed the genocide against the Turkic people throughout history. Claiming that Armenia was subjected to genocide is at least a fraud. Such announcements and statements seriously hinder peace and security in the region."
