White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting suspect sent manifesto to family — media
The suspect in the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, sent a manifesto to family members shortly before the attack outlining his intent to target officials linked to U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, U.S. media reported, citing law enforcement officials.
According to CBS News, Allen indicated that administration officials were his primary targets, while hotel staff, guests and most security personnel were not. Investigators are reviewing his writings and electronic devices to determine motive.
The Washington Post reported that Allen had expressed strong grievances against the Trump administration in messages to relatives and signalled a willingness to carry out an attack.
A U.S. Secret Service agent was wounded in the shooting but was protected by body armour, according to media reports. The suspect has been detained and faces federal charges, including attempted murder of a federal officer.
