Russia buys 1.37bcm of gas from Azerbaijan in 2013

Russia bought 1.37 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan this year, Gazprom said in a statement on its website.The Russian gas monopoly agreed with Azerbaijan’s state oil company Socar in 2012 to buy more than 3 billion cubic meters of gas a year. Socar complained that Gazprom purchased half of the volume it promised to import from Azerbaijan under a take-or-pay agreement last year.

Gazprom, which exported gas to Azerbaijan until 2006, now buys Azeri gas to supply Russia’s southern region of Dagestan with the fuel.
