McIlroy explains why breaking up with Wozniacki ....

When Rory McIlroy broke off his engagement with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki back in May it appeared to be a crushing blow - well, perhaps not so much for him.

The wedding invitations had already gone out when McIlroy called it all off and broke up with the Dane, but it has at least allowed him to focus exclusively on his golf.McIlroy has now explained that having one less thing to think about - or that is at least how it came out - has really helped him rediscover his sparkling form.Indeed, the Northern Irishman credits his stunning wins at The Open Championship in July and The PGA Championship last week partially to the break-up."I think what happened has been for the better in terms of my golf," McIlroy told the Daily Mail."I’ve put a bit more time into it, and it has refocused me. I mean, what else do I have to do now?"I go to the golf course, I go to the gym, and it’s just my life at the minute."Well look, he's just being honest. It's probably not the easiest thing for poor Wozniacki to hear after seeing her former fiancé win successive Majors, but he was just answering a question regarding his form.He added: "I worked pretty hard before, but the past couple of months I’ve really just buried myself in my game."It obviously works pretty well, so I am going to keep doing it."Indeed, the fact that a professional sportsman has devoted more time and work than he felt he was previously able to could be seen as a positive thing, at least for the individual.McIlroy's sudden resurgence, of course, cannot all be down to breaking off his engagement. He has famously struggled to adapt to switching over to Nike's equipment since landing his huge deal with the company - until very recently that is.Since May, McIlroy has been on fire. Besides the two Major triumphs, he also picked up his first World Golf Championship title with victory at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone the week prior to his PGA success. If doubling his major titles and breaking his WGC duck were not sufficient, he has also hauled in nearly $5m (£3m) in winnings over the course of the last four weeks. Not bad, hey?So is it really a bad thing that he has 'buried himself in the game' over the last few months? Well, the issue can be debated and golf is famous for being a sport that demands an almost obsessive work-rate.At the time of breaking off his engagement to Wozniacki in May, McIlroy explained that the 'problem' was his, without anyone being entirely sure whether he was implying that his dip in form was at least in part behind the decision."The problem is mine," he told the BBC at the time. "The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails."There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people."I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we have had."(eurosport.yahoo.com)Bakudaily.Az
