Today marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the country’s Fundamental Law.

The Constitution was adopted 30 years ago, on November 12, 1995, through a nationwide referendum, becoming the first Constitution of independent Azerbaijan.

The current Constitution consists of 5 sections, 12 chapters, and 158 articles.
Amendments and additions were introduced by referendums in 2002, 2009, and 2016.

On February 6, 1996, by decree of President Heydar Aliyev, November 12 was declared Constitution Day in Azerbaijan.
