Sanctioned oil tanker Caroline Bezengi sinks off Oman, causing vast oil spill

The sanctioned oil tanker Caroline Bezengi, carrying nearly one million barrels of crude oil, is sinking off the coast of Oman.

According to Arab News, citing satellite imagery, the vessel ran aground about two months ago near a protected marine area close to Qibliyah Island in southwestern Oman. Released satellite photos reveal an oil slick covering nearly 800 square kilometers.

Environmental authorities in the region have raised severe concerns regarding the potential ecological impact on local marine life and protected zones.
