Epsilon Perseid Meteor Shower to Peak on September 9

The epsilon-Perseid (ε-Perseid) meteor shower will remain active from September 5 to 21, reaching its peak on September 9, according to the Astrophysics Department of the Faculty of Physics at Baku State University.

Meteor particles enter Earth's atmosphere at velocities of 64 to 65 km/s. Although the shower's radiant is positioned within the constellation Perseus, September's epsilon-Perseids are physically distinct from the well-known August Perseids.

When observed from Baku, the radiant will rise above the eastern horizon around 19:32 local time and persist until dawn. Optimal visibility is forecast for the night of September 9, particularly post-midnight and in the pre-dawn hours. Observers under clear skies can expect roughly 4 meteors per hour, with the near-new moon phase ensuring negligible interference from moonlight.
